Day Four: 2 Oct (CET -1)

18.45 That’s it for Dakhla. Tune in for the next instalment in Brazil.

18.25 W mini-final Francesca Maini v Nia Suardiaz. Suardiaz wins and take third place while Maini takes a fourth in her first competition. Suardiaz gets the win by just over a point.

18.00 M mini-final Vinnicius Martins v Leon Schiel. Fourteen-year-old Briton Leon Schiel gets the win to take third place. A big 8.47 ride sealed the deal and Martins, the Brazilian just couldn’t close the gap despite a number of good waves.

17.30 W F Elena Moreno v Bowien van der Linden. Elena Moreno takes the win to make it back-to-back victories and cement her position at the top of the world rankings. She got a big wave score of 8.4 that helped her to a total of 15.15, with Van der Linden close behind on 13.13.

17.05 M F Cash Berzolla v Otis Buckingham. Berzolla takes the win in Dakhla with another stunning display. His combination scores of 9.73 and 9.23 had everything for a total of 18.96. Buckingham, in first final, gave it a good go and ended with 16.50.

16.50 W SF1 Elena Moreno v Nia Suardiaz. The women are out again for a 10-minute extension. Both start the extension with identical 12.13 scores. That was a cliffhanger but Moreno just just scrapes through as both threw down some good waves right at the end. Moreno meets Van der Linden in the final.

16.39 W SF1 Francesca Maini v Bowien van der Linden. The women are out again for a 10-minute extension. But already Van der Linden is having problems getting up on foil. But Van der Linden goes to the final courtesy of her efforts earlier in heat.

16.15 M SF2 Leon Schiel v Otis Buckingham. Buckingham got two good scores on the board, including a 7.13. Schiel was chasing the heat and in his efforts came off the foil and struggled to get going again, with the result that Buckingham makes it to his first final.

15.50 M SF1 Cash Berzolla v Vinnicius Martins. Berzolla is our first finalist after he got two big scores, including a 9.53, on the board early on. He ran out of wind towards the end of the heat, but had done enough to beat Martins and advance.

15.25 W SF2 Elena Moreno v Nia Suardiaz. Heat cancelled for lack of wind.

15.02 W SF1 Francesca Maini v Bowien van der Linden. Van der Linden had a good start to the heat, but the decision was taken that we would come back to the heats and each would be given a 10-minute extension.

15.00 We’re switching over to the women’s semi-finals now.

14.40 M QF4 Otis Buckingham v Liam Coralle. Buckingham gets the win after a furious exchange as they went trick for trick. Buckingham racked up 14.50 to Coralle’s 14.45 and goes to the semi-final in the tightest heat so far. Both notched up big seven-point scores.

14.30 M QF3 Benoit Carpentier v Leon Schiel. Schiel continues his run and reaches his first semi-final. The 14-year-old took out the experienced Carpentier.

14.20 M QF2 Finn Spencer v Cash Berzolla. An incredible heat with Berzolla getting the first perfect 10 of the competition to take his heat total to 19.63 and ending the run of his friend and Maui rider, Spencer. His 10 showed everything, with airs, floaters and carves on the face from top to bottom.

14.10 M QF1 Camille Bouyer v Vinnicius Martins. Martins found a decent wave at the end that helped him ease past Bouyer into the semi-final by only a tiny margins-just 0.33.

13.20 M R3 H8 Malo Guénolé v Liam Coralle. Huge upset. Tour leader Guenole is sent out by debutant Coralle. Coralle got two solid six-point waves and Guenole could not find anything after falling towards the end of the heat.

13.10 M R3 H7 Otis Buckingham v Zany Guy. Buckingham makes it through to the quarters with 13.17, while the Cape Verdean athlete is out.

13.00 M R3 H6 Jeffrey Spencer v Leon Schiel. Schiel, the 14-year-old, takes out Spencer by 0.25 of a point and goes the quarter finals.

12.50 M R3 H5 Benoit Carpentier v Tom Auber. Carpentier wins with 13.17 over his compatriot Auber.

12.40 M R3 H4 Cash Berzolla v Chucot Nonnot. Berzolla took the win with the highest wave score of the day with 9.13, to get a total of 16.48, sending Nonnot out.

12.30 M R3 H3 Finn Spencer v Noé Cuyala. Spencer gets the win over Cuyala in a tight battle by 13.70 to 13.26. Amazing heat.

12.20 M R3 H2 Wesley Brito v Vinnicius Martins. World champion Brito is out in another shock, with Martins advancing to the next round.

12.10 M R3 H1 Camille Bouyer v Julien Bouyer. Camille steals it from his brother Julien right at the death with a 6.87 wave score that gave him the lead and the win.

12.00 M R2 H8 Liam Coralle v Clement Roseyro. Coralle gets the win over Roseyro with two strong wave scores. That’s quite an upset with the debutant Coralle advancing to Round 3.

11.50 M R2 H7 Zany Guy v Hamouda Houine. Guy gets the win and advances over the local athlete.

11.40 M R2 H6 Leon Schiel v Kapono Fukuda. The youngest rider in the competition, 14-year-old Schiel, gets the win over our Japanese debutant Fukuda. Schiel chalked up two solid waves.

11.30 M R2 H5 Tom Auber v Hugo Marin. This is a big heat already, with Marin last year’s tour runner-up against his countryman. Super-tight heat with Auber just getting the win by a fraction of the point to advance.

11.22 M R2 H4 Chucot Nonnot v Axel Gerard. That’s the first huge upset of the day, when Nonnot won the heat and sent the 16-year-old star, Gerard, out. Nonnot scored the biggest wave of the day for 9.07 right at the death to take the lead the heat and win.

11.13 M R2 H3 Noé Cuyala v Austin Tovey. The 16-year-old Corsican Cuyala is on fire, taking the biggest wave score of the day so far, with 8.23, that helped him to the win over Tovey.

11.03 M R2 H2 Baptiste Cloarec v Vinnicius Martins. Martins squeezes out the win with a 9.97 heat total.

10.34 M R2 H1 Julien Bouyer v Austin Kalama. Red flag is up. Just a few minutes to go. Bouyer gets the win with a 11.16 heat total that easily overhauled the America windsurf wave rider Kalama on his wingfoil tour debut.

09.50 Good morning. We are planning to get back to the men’s competition shortly. We’ll try to finish both the men’s and women’s today as the conditions are still difficult.

Day Three: 1 Oct (CET -1)

11.59 The wingfoilers have been released for the day. Join us tomorrow again.

09.37 Good morning. The plan for today is to run the Kite-Surf competition all day, so the wingfoilers are on hold for now. Stay tuned for more action.

Day Two: 30 Sept (CET -1)

15.40 That’s it for today. We are going to switch over to the Kite-Surf for Day 2. Join again tomorrow.

15.05 W R3 H4 Isabel Traviño v Nia Suardiaz. Suardiaz wins with two good waves scores to go to the semi-finals.

14.40 W R3H3 Elena Moreno v Manon Dupé. Tour leader Moreno ekes out the win, just finding the waves she needed to give her a heat total of 6.28. Moreno overhauled Dupé, who couldn’t quite find the waves she needed.

14.15 W R3 H2 Mar de Arce v Bowien van der Linden. A big heat with the two former world champions, in Big Air and Surf Freestyle, pitted against one another. Van der Linden comes from behind in the heat to bag a big 5.87 ride that gave her a heat total of 10.57 and win. De Arce landed two strong scores for a total of 9.70, but it wasn’t quite enough.

13.50 W R3 H1 Sofia Marchetti v Francesca Maini. Britain’s Maini gets a great win very difficult conditions. She managed to find a few waves and work them into the bay giving her a strong total of 11.76. Marchetti was less fortunate and that heat ends her run.

13.30 W R2 H4 Charlotte Carpentier v Isabel Traviño. Elena Moreno got a bye into Round 3. The heat duration has been extended to 22 for the upcoming women’s Round 3 because the sets are few and far between at the moment. The wind is 15kts to 19kts, but still light on the inside. Traviño gets the win and advances while Carpentier is out.

13.15 W R2 H2 Mar de Arce v Zara Maillard. De Arce takes the win  with 9.76 heat total and advances while that is the end of the road for Maillard who fell a little short with two rides for 6.58. Sofia Marchetti got a bye into Round 3 in R2 H1.

13.10 Next up we will have Round 2 of the women.

12.50 M R1 H8 Hamouda Houine v Chuchot Nonnot v Malo Guénolé. A big heat with Guénolé, the winner of the first round in Cape Verde out on the water for the first time. Guénolé comes out of the gate fast and bags some big wave rides, including a huge 9.0, the highest score of the first round. It gave him a convincing win and a berth in Round 3, with Nonnot taking second and Houine in third.

12.30 M R1 H7 Otis Buckingham v Noé Cuyala v Clément Roseyro. The US athlete Otis Buckingham wins with a strong 7.0 wave adding to his total. Cuyala was second with a total of 10.29, and goes to Round 2 with Clément Roseyro.

12.07 M R1 H6 Baptiste Cloarec v Jeffrey Spencer v Hugo Marin. Spencer wins the heat with an 8.93 total and goes straight to Round 3. Cloarec takes second and will have to fight for survival in Round 2 with Hugo Marin.

11.40 M R1 H5 Kapono Fukuda v Julien Bouyer v Benoit Carpentier. We’re off. The riders are on 4.5m and 5m wings as the wind is still a little bit lighter. The waves are small, but the wingfoilers are able to work the swells. Carpentier gets a good win with several strong rides even in the difficult waves. Bouyer takes second place with 10.08, ahead of the Japanese debutant Fukuda, with both going forward in Round 2.

11.32 The red flag is set to go up at 11.40 and hopefully we’ll be underway shortly.

10.52 The heat is On Hold right now as we wait for the wind to fill in, on the inside near the point.

10.35 M R1 H5 Kapono Fukuda v Julien Bouyer v Benoit Carpentier. Fukuda is our first Japanese rider to compete on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour.

10.10 Good morning. We are just about to get the action underway with the men’s heats. We’re set for a 10.45 start.

Day One: 29 Sept (CET -1)

13.50 Men’s R1 H1 Vinnicius Martins v Camille Bouyer v Tom Auber. We’re on. The green flag is up. That heat was cancelled due to a mix-up with lycra colours.

13.46 We’re about to get underway shortly with the first round of the men’s competition.

13.00 R1 H4 Mar de Arce v Nia Suardiaz. Suardiaz just gets the win over her compatriot.

12.30 R1 H3 Manon Dupé  v Charlotte Carpentier v Sofia Marchetti. Dupé gets the win with a 6.46 total, Marchetti in second and Carpentier in third.

11.48 We have a slight technical issue right now. We’ll get back to you shortly with the results of the first round of the women’s competition.

10.26 R1 H2 Isabel Traviño v Bowien van der Linden. Van der Linden wins with 13.83, to beat Traviño.

10.17 Women R1 H1 Zara Maillard v Francesca Maini v Elena Moreno. Maini opens her wingfoil career with a big win, taking 14.91, to leave Moreno in second on 10.52 and Zara Maillard in third with 6.89. It’s a non-elimination round, so the two losers live to fight again in Round 2.

09.19 Good morning. The plan today is to open the women’s action with Round 1 coming up shortly.
