19 – 24 July 2024

Disciplines: FreeFly-Slalom, Surf-Freestyle

Fuerteventura World Cup Competition Closed: Exhibition and Prize Giving.

Day Five, 24 July 2024 (GMT +1)

13.50 With the competition complete, today is the last day of the event. Here’s the schedule!: 1-Super fun Synchronized Trick exhibition, teams of two against other teams, each team doing same trick in unison; 2-PRIZE GIVING 16:30 at La Carla, for FreeFly-Slalom and Surf-Freestyle!

Day Four, 23 July 2024 (GMT+1)

17.30 Near perfect heat for MACDONALD who wins the event and provisionally the Surf-Freestyle World Championship. Our thoughts are with Malo GUENOLE and hoping he’s heeling already. GERARD second, CORR third and GUENOLE fourth.

17.27 One trick left and less than a point between GERARD and MACDONALD with all 9s!!

17.18 We wish Malo GUENOLE was here, he’d be in a SICK final GERARD with a Frontside 1050 9.2 and MACDONALD just went to the moon with same FS10 and 9.83!!!

17.15 GERARD asks the question with 9.2 FFFS360 and MACDONALD answers with the same move higher at 9.53

17.09 Men’s FINALS up next but first, heeling thoughts being sent to Malo GUENOLE who has been taken to the hospital with an injury, reportedly with dislocated shoulder, torn ligaments and potential broken arm. So three-riders are in the stare: GERARD, CORR, MACDONALD.

17.02 SUARDIAZ launches into a big lead with an unhanded backlog spin 7.83 and WINS! With DE ARCE 2nd and 3rd LIPPITSCH.  Provisionally SUARDIAZ is Fuerteventura World Cup winner AND Surf-Freestyle World Champion!

16.58 Now DE ARCE leads LIPPITSCH but SUARDIAZ has more jumps

16.55 W FINALS is going off! LIPPITSCH with a massive backflip she’s been hiding all comp leads while DE ARCE and CERIS are within a point and Tour Leader SUARDIAZ has been crashing out despite an 8 point backflip.

16.40 Well, they topped that last heat, less than a point between the top three and MACDONALD and CORR make it into the finals with GERARD and GUENOLE. MacDonald has a 9.73 in the last attempt, YEW! So two French, a Spanish and an American FINALS.

16.18 M SEMI 2 in progress, how can we top the drama that’s been in these heats?? And Women’s FINALS after M SEMI 2.

16.14 Waiting to hear about GUENOLE who is into the FINALS but injured, good vibes headed his way from all. Now the SEMI 1 results…WHAT??!! Triple Backflip Combo for a 9.97 GERARD into the finals with Guenole. What a heat. ACHERER was within 4-tenths of a point while GUENOLE was receiving medical attention.

16.08 GERARD in a solid lead with more than 27 points but with GUENOLE off the water, ACHERER is catching up with one point of Guenole.

16.05 GUENOLE being brought in by jetski after falling on a jump. Looks like out for this heat but still in qualifying position for finals.

16.04 M SEMI 1 is out of control GUENOLE and GERARD are in a league of their own with 8s and 9s!

15.49 W SEMIS 2 SUARDIAZ wins with an impressive three 8+ point scores and LIPPITSCH is second and into the finals with super clean 360s and one innovation to make it by 1 point.

15.35 SUARDIAZ still in her winning mode with a skying 8.27 Backflip, landed to perfection while crashes are keeping the other riders from catching up.

15.29 W SEMIS 2, last riders to qualify for FINALS!

15.26 One tenth of a point separated first and second in SEMI 1 and CERIS just edged out DE ARCE, but both are going to the finals. DUPE’ and LAURANT were giving it everything but several crashes crushed their finals hopes. LAURANT sending massive stretched out front flips but crashing and landed one Innovation trick as well.

15.10 NOW Women’s first SEMIS 1 super hard core with Guadeloupe’s DUPE’ And LAURENT, then CERIS and DE ARCE!

15.08 Last R5 H4 was sick! VUILLERMET was second with well executed Frontside 1050 but MACDONALD’s stunning 9.8, with an 8.17 and massive 7.43 Front Flip made an easy trip into the Semifinals. MACDONALD is one of only 2 out of the 8 semifinalists who is NOT French!

14.56 Holy MACDONALD 9.8 Frontside 1080! But close heat!

14.49 We haven’t seen any of the crazy innovation we saw yesterday but that’s about to change ins H4!!! ESCOFET, BERGER, VUILLERMET, MACDONALD!

14.43 R5 H3 was exciting not for CORR’s solid 22.50 heat win and T. ACHERER also going to SEMIS but Tour contender CAPPUZZO only getting one scored jump, the last, with a well executed Ridiculo 720.

14.24 What a jam session in H2!!! Highest scoring heat combining all riders, all in low 20s as GERARD moves through with a final Back Mobe 360 to add to his sick 9.27 and big story FEDIT going through to SEMIS upsetting a battle with SOSA. Fedit with two 7-point range scores and a perfect 8 Backlog Spin Frontside 360.

14.12 GERARD Has highest score of day it looks so far with a super clean 9.27 Frontside 1080, committed and high!

13.58 M R5 H1 Now things are getting hot and scores are soaring with the jumps! GUENOLE (2022 World Freestyle Champ) 4 points clear of CUYALA in second so this two are our first Semifinalists.

13.38 Three of the riders have excellent scores in the 8s.

13.45 CUYALA comes out super strong with 8.13 Toeside Frontside 900.

13.40 M R5 H1 is on!! This is the quarterfinals and top two from each heat head to the SEMIS. Pressure is on, too!

13.05 Not a crazy high scoring heat but super even with top two going into R5 with a shot at SEMIS. 1-SOSA, 2-ZORZI, 3-BASTIANELLI, 4-PALLIER.

12.45 ESCOFET moved closer to Alek ACHERER with a 7.4 Frontside 720 but ended up second to ACHERER and both move into the R5.

12.27 Alek ACHERER now in H3 and is the first to drop an excellent score today of 8.5 Backlog Spin Frontside 360!

12.23 ACHERER moves through M R4 H1 while the teenager BERGER crushes H2 with scores in the 8-point range. Onto H3.

11.37 Here’s todays schedule: M R4-5 (Heats 15-22), W SEMIS (Heats 17-18), M SEMIS (Heats 23-24), W FINAL, M FINAL.

11.34 What a morning for Finals Day! Fingers crossed we will be crowing event winners and two riders (SUARDIAZ, MACDONALD) have the potential of clinching the world title. Men’s R4 H1 on now with a building breeze: HARBACEK, TIELES, GASPERINI, ACHERER. It’s hard to match tomorrow’s top scores but riders are hungry to qualify for the semis!

13.56 Things are moving fast here as the beach is flooded with a high tide and 35-knot gusts! M E4 SEMI 1 is rolling and Women are into their second heat of E4. In the women’s there are 3 places up for grabs possibly all five behind SUARDIAZ (six go into the Final Elimination heats after E4).

13.17 M E4 R1 H1 underway. Lookout for some major place changes as LE CLAIR’s 2nd in E3 moves him into striking distance of the FINALS but others are on the bubble too and need the E4 discard.

13.14 SUARDIAZ sent a massive air after finishing E3 FINAL and with that we have our first FreeFly-Slalom finalists! Even though we will be starting the Fourth and Final Elimination Round shortly for W/M, SUARDIAZ (W) and CAPPUZZO (M) have won E1-3, and will be top ranked in the overall event final, each receiving one Bullet or 1st place for the finals. 11.54 All righty!
