Wingfoil World Tour Qualifying Series Climax & Wave Hunting in Galicia

Coming to life in the spring of 2022, the GWA Wingfoil World Tour Qualifying Series provides opportunities for national event organisers to stage competitions inline with the full GWA Wingfoil World Tour to help nurture and encourage rider development.

Given the huge numbers of applications from riders to compete on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour, at the end of the 2022 season the Qualifying Series will provide a fair and sustainable route onto the Wingfoil World Tour with the competitor numbers of World Tour competitors capped for the 2023 season.

At the end of the 2022 season the top five ranked male and female riders in the Qualifying Series Surf-Freestyle and Surf-Slalom disciplines will qualify for the full GWA Wingfoil World Tour in 2023.

EVENT FOCUS: GALICIA, SPAIN: 23 – 25 September

The first ‘mobile’ event ever run by the GWA… and so far the forecast looks very promising!

WHY MOBILE?

To maximise the search for optimal conditions and to provide the best chance to deliver an epic event in waves!

Beyond the hope for waves, the Galicia event will also run a Surf-Slalom discipline as well as a fun and relaxed race competition to help encourage more riders to get involved.

WHO CAN ENTER?

ANYONE! Of course this is an event organised and run to particularly appeal to regional riders wanting to extend their competition experience, however this particular event has a very healthy prize purse and is likely to deliver excellent conditions at a fantastic location for wingfoiling.

Opportunities to shred and push the sport together don’t come along like this very often.

HOW TO ENTER?

Potential spots the event will run at:

Aguieira Beach
For Surf-Freestyle or Surf-Slalom, this 1.5km long beach has a sandy bottom, an estuary and beautiful flat water in the west of Galicia’s Porto do Son municipality.

Furna Beach
Again in the west of Galicia in the Porto do Son municipality. Multiple left and right peaks break in a northwest swell, best suited to a medium to high level rider.

Major Beach
Another close-by spot catching lots of northwest and westerly swells, producing multiple left and right peaks.

O Rostro Beach
Western Galicia in the Cee municipality catching lots of northwest and westerly swells, producing multiple left and right peaks.

Santa Cristina Beach
Northwest Galicia in the Oleiros municipality with a sandy bottom more suited to all riders.

Esmelle Beach
Northern Galicia near the Ferrol town hall, delivering multiple left and right peaks to medium and high level riders, catching swells best from northwest and west.
