There are two events remaining on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour. Who will be crowned world champion for 2022?

The next event on the 2022 GWA Wingfoil World Tour is none other than Tarifa, Spain. Home to some of the windiest conditions on the planet,  Tarifa is sure to deliver up fantastic conditions for the upcoming GWA Wingfoil World Tour Event. 

Following Tarifa, the final showdown of the year will take place in Taiba, Brazil, where competitors will battle it out to be named world champion. 

With 25.000€ in prize money on the line for these two events, we’re looking forward to a fantastic showing from our competitors

LOCATION: TARIFA, SPAIN

October 12th-16th, 2022

Located on the Southern Coast of Spain in between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, Tarifa is one of the meccas of windsports and is known worldwide as a kiteboarding, sailing, windsurfing and wingfoiling destination. 

The famous Poniente westerly winds fill in nice and early, making for an unbeatable day on the water. The huge beaches enable lots of access to the water and despite the crowds, Tarifa is one of the best places to wing foil in Europe. The almost year-round winds make Tarifa one of the favorite stops on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour.

LAST YEAR’S WINNERS:

The 2021 Tarifa Wing Pro was a huge success and the GWA, was able to complete the full Surf-Freestyle discipline, and Surf-Slalom discipline and ended the day crowning our new GWA Champions.

It was an early start, with the crew and athletes ready on the beach by 7.30 am. The Levante wind started to blow, giving us 8 – 16 knots, and making for a kick-off to the day!

On the Surf-Freestyle side, the final was a major showdown between experienced waterman Balz Muller, and 15-year-old up-and-coming rider Riccardo Zorzi. Balz wasn’t messing around for the final, and locked down an 8.03 point Backflip to get started. Riccardo Zorzi was fully focused for his first-ever final, and he threw down some massive tricks, with incredible height and execution. His Frontside 7 scored him 7.5 points, and together with his 3 other high-scoring tricks, he took the win by less than one point from Balz Muller with Maxime Chabloz finishing in 3rd. 

For the women, Bowien van der Linden managed to secure her victory with a solid showing followed by Olivia Piana in 2nd and Flora Artzner in 3rd.

In the Surf-Slalom discipline, Olivia Piana  rode yet another confident race, showing focus and determination as she managed once again to hold on to her lead throughout the race and another win. This time it was Orane Ceris who stormed through in second place, followed by Bowien van der Linden.

For the men, Mathis Ghio finished in 1st, followed by Francesco Cappuzzo and Maxime Chabloz.

NEXT UP: TAIBA, BRAZIL

November 16th-20th, 2022

Following Tarifa, our last GWA Wingfoil World Cup event of 2022 will take place in Taiba, Brazil from November 16-20th. 

This will be the first time the event will be hosted in Taiba and we’re looking forward to some time in the Brazilian sun already!

The GWA Wingfoil World Cup Taiba runs the week before an awesome double header event that features Hydrofoil Kite Freestyle and the finals of the GKA Kite-Surf World Cup event also in Taiba the week after.
